A customer biked to the Tucson store on Thursday and filmed it. The tarp is off the Bricks & Minifigs sign, the Reckless Bricks logo is still on the door, and a handwritten note taped to the glass says “Temporarily Closed.”
On Saturday the store opened under a tarp with its new name stretched over the old sign. In a video published Thursday the tarp is gone and the Bricks & Minifigs letters are visible again. Inside, through the window, the shelves are stocked, the lights are on, and the sign on the wall still reads “We Do NOT steal from old people.” The store has not said why it is closed. Two explanations are circulating on Reddit and neither comes from the store. BAM has said nothing in public.

What the video shows
EpicChicken31 is a Tucson viewer who went to the opening on September 12 and has been posting short videos about the store since. Thursday’s video, five minutes and nineteen seconds, is titled “Reckless Bricks is closed...” and opens with him arriving on a bicycle. “I didn’t plan to go today, but there was something on Reddit that I saw,” he says. “And immediately when I pulled up, I saw something interesting. The sign’s gone.”
On September 12 the same sign was covered. This site described it that day as “a tarp with the new name stretched over the old sign,” and five livestreams filmed it. In Thursday’s video the covering is gone and the channel letters underneath read Bricks & Minifigs, beside the brand’s brick logo. The video does not show when the covering came down or who removed it.
The door has not changed. The Reckless Bricks logo is still on the glass, above the payment stickers, and the same logo is on the mat inside. Taped to the door at eye level is a whiteboard in a blue frame.
“When you go up here, it says temporarily closed with a sad face,” he says. “So this does not seem to be a good thing.”
What is still inside
He photographed the interior through the window and went through the pictures on camera. His reason was the explanation he had read online: “The thing I wanted to check is if like they were out of stock on a lot of things.” His answer, looking at his own photographs: “They they seem to be pretty in stock. Like someone on Reddit said like, oh, they’re doing really well.”
In the photographs the display cases hold rows of minifigures, the shelves carry boxed sets and blind bags, the lights are on, and the hand-lettered sign on the back wall reads “We Do NOT steal from old people,” the line the store has carried since it opened. He notes boxes still on the shelf with Schneider’s signature on them, from the two hours he spent signing sets on opening morning, and he notes what is gone: the hanging novelty items printed with the BAM chief executive’s face. One capsule dispenser near the top looks low to him. He is careful about the rest: “I don’t know what to make of a lot of these photos. I’m just giving my observations.”
The store’s website still lists Monday to Saturday 10 to 7 and Sunday 11 to 5 under the words “Open 7 Days a Week!” It carries no notice of a closure. The store has posted nothing about it and has said nothing to this site.
The two explanations, and who is making them
The post that sent him there went up on r/RecklessBen at about 8 a.m. Tucson time: a passer-by checking the store’s hours found it marked closed and wondered about a cease and desist. Five minutes later a commenter replied that he had heard the store “basically sold out of most of their sets, and are waiting for their next inventory order.” Eight hours after that a moderator of the forum posted: “Inventory Issues, just waiting on more great stuff to sell.” Two hours later another commenter wrote: “This isn’t inventory, don’t be delusional, BAM did this.”
None of those is the store. The store has not published a reason. BAM has said nothing in public about the store since September 12, when its marketing director told every franchisee that “Corporate is taking swift, decisive, and appropriate action.” A search of the federal dockets on Thursday found no new case naming BAM or the store, and no order.
The clause that makes a closed door matter
BAM’s franchise agreement, the form it files with state regulators every year, lists twenty defaults that end a franchise with no notice and no chance to cure. The section is headed “Immediate Termination,” and it opens: the agreement “will automatically terminate without notice, at our discretion, if any of the following events occur.” The sixth is a closed store.
“(vi) Abandonment. You abandon or fail actively to operate your Store for five (5) consecutive days unless your Store has been closed for a purpose approved in advance by us in writing or because of fire, flood or other casualty or government order;”
Three exceptions are listed: BAM’s written approval, given in advance; a fire, flood or other casualty; a government order. The clause names no others. The same document says, in the table BAM writes for buyers, that an owner has no matching right: beside “Termination by you,” the section of the agreement it cites is “None.”
The owner’s position, as he gave it to Coach of Echo Base Network on opening night, is that he ended the franchise himself, by letter, before the store reopened. BAM has not said in public what its position is.
The fair counterpoint. A five-day abandonment clause is ordinary in franchise agreements, and a shop can close for a day for reasons that have nothing to do with a franchisor. The video is one visitor’s trip and his own photographs through a window; he says himself that he is guessing at some of it. Nothing public shows who took the covering off the sign or why, and nothing public shows why the door is shut. Everyone named is presumed to have acted lawfully, and the accusations at the center of the wider case remain unadjudicated allegations.
Later: BAM’s West Coast franchise business coach is telling owners in her region that the company closed the store itself, “That was us”, reported September 18.
